Album Name: Cangrejo School Project- Dominican Republic Return to Albums
Album Date: Apr 19, 2009
Description: While in the Dominican Republic, I had the opportunity to meet up with Philip Williams from the Servant's Heart Ministries and tour our International project 'Hugs for Haitian Kids' In addition we were also able to visit Nazaret, a community where Servant's Heart was operating a community medical mission where they see 120 people per week. The clinic is only open 1.5 days per week. It is truly remarkable. Kevin Armstrong

Street view of School. Notice the concrete railing and ballisters, handmade by a local artisan. Each of these ballisters cost $3 each as compared to using steel. To complete the same work in steel would have been almost $1000. Side view of the building. The community uses the upper part of the building as a church as well. Philip Williams, Pastor Rafael Perez and Interactor David Armstrong Williams, Perez and Rotarian Kevin Armstrong Inside view of 'church'. All wiring and electricity has been completed. The people at the front of the building were practicing for Sunday service.
Inside view of the school. Terry Smith group will be erecting walls for the classrooms early May 2009. Reverse view of the school. The school is on this main highway. It is very busy and traffic in Dominican is CRAZY. In order for children from this community to get to public school, they have to cross the bridge. According to Williams, there have been a number of broken limbs and other injuries because of crossing the bridge. The building from across the street. There is only about 2 feet of land on each side of the building. Very tight use of the space. While visiting, we met Alfredo. He is anxious to begin attending school sometime in July of this year.
Small government built community to the south of Puerto Plata (not far from school). This is location of medical mission operated by Servant's Heart Ministries. Building built by the government but utilized for the medical clinic. This an example of a state certified school complete with fence and play area. Typical house in this community. Nice garden and pride of ownership.
